Stories of Humankindness
Hello humankindness. It’s more than a tagline, it’s how we provide treatment and the way we treat patients. Because the way care is provided is often as meaningful as the care itself. These are a few stories of humankindness in action …
-
I had knee replacement surgery. This was the first time I've been in a hospital for surgery. I was obviously nervous. I have visited many people in the hospital, and I was told that if they were asleep when their pain medicine could be administered, no one would wake them. Thus, they could wake up much later and be in a lot of pain. I asked Princess if I should set an alarm for the times I could receive pain medication. She assured me that she would let me know when it was time for my pain meds. She did, and because she did, I could comfortably fall asleep, knowing she would wake me up. She was so pleasant and cheerful the entire night. I was amazed because she was a night nurse, and I thought a night nurse would be quite tired because they were working throughout the night. Each time she gave me my meds, she explained what each one was for. Because of her, I was very relaxed. She made me feel I was an important patient on her rounds. I don't think I will ever forget her!

We cannot thank our wonderful nurses enough. Bruce was our day time nurse and was outstanding for my husband. He was beyond wonderful, he made us feel like we were the only patient when we knew he had 5 others. He made us feel safe and welcome. He was outstanding in every way, you're very lucky to have him on your staff. What a great asset to your hospital. Roy was our night time nurse. My husband also said he was wonderful and very attentive to him, never felt he was bothering him, and was so pleased to have him after Bruce. You have two outstanding nurses on the Surgical Observation Unit. It was very apparent that they truly know how to be good nurses, treat you with respect and kindness, and take a lot of pride in what they do. You should be very grateful to have them.
-
I have nothing to say except that I received the most outstanding care from all the staff members that I’ve encountered during my stay in the hospital. Thank you.

I appreciate Dr. Patel and the staff who assisted in my double hernia surgery. He and his team were caring and professional in their work.
-
Angel received me after my surgery. She was very giving and caring to my needs post-operatively. She was there not only for me, but also for my husband. She made sure he was as comfortable as could be. She didn’t treat me as “just” another patient. It meant so much to be recognized and supported by the staff. Angel is definitely an outstanding caregiver. Don’t get me wrong — all of my caregivers were excellent!
-
Shirley, CNA, is an exceptional human being. She does everything to take care of her patients, and when asked to do something, she gets right on it. One example that stood out was when a special bed needed to be moved, and although it typically required multiple people, she handled it herself without hesitation. She never missed an opportunity to offer food, drinks, help to the bathroom, and above all, a listening ear.

Dr. Hoer is a magnificent surgeon. His staff is as great as him. The care I had in the hospital was great, nurses were very attentive in giving me the care before and after surgery.
-
Our son was in ICU on a ventilator for fifteen days. When he was being removed from ventilator doctors were quite certain he would have to have a trachea inserted in order to breath which would have resulted in a very long rehab stay. Sara was with him when he was removed from the ventilator, and she worked with him nonstop during the transition and because of this, he was able to breath on his own and did not need the trachea. We believe that due to her strong efforts, our son was able to breath on his own making his recovery time so much shorter. We will be forever grateful to Sara for her perseverance and help in saving our son's life.
-
All of the staff (nurses, procedure staff and all others) were GREAT, very helpful and always made me feel like they really cared. If I were to score them on a scale of 0-100 they would all get 110. THANK YOU!
-
Thank you, Nurse Johnny, for the excellent, compassionate, kind care you blessed me with during my stay in the cardiac unit. You are the best!! The rest of the staff in the cardiac unit were wonderful as well! Everyone gave me the best care possible and helped me toward my recovery!
-
I would like to acknowledge my entire surgical team. As an employee (21 years) of St. Rose Siena campus (surgery dept), I had a lot of reservations about my upcoming surgery. My providers Dr. Carla Turner, Dr. Nancy Aranda, and Dr. Ashlee Justice agreed to schedule my surgery on a Saturday to offer me peace and privacy. My surgical team Therese (RN), Ruby (FA), and Briana (CST), made me feel so comfortable, and took such great care of me. I received the best possible care, and I am forever grateful to them all. This is the definition of humankindness.
-
First off, from start to finish everyone at the hospital were kind and professional. I was very happy with the care I received. As far as my Dr. Richard Woodworth, I can’t begin to express my deepest gratitude and respect for him as a doctor and a person. His skill and attention to my knee are truly outstanding. I feel that in all my life when dealing with physicians, he is the kindest, most respectful doctor I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet. I am truly blessed and grateful to have him and his staff to perform my surgery. Thanks to him, and of course God I feel that I will be able to walk again. Thank you Dr. Woodworth.

I had the absolute privilege of having Nurse Michelle R. by my side during my first labor, and I cannot speak highly enough of her. From the very beginning, she was calm, steady, and incredibly reassuring—even in moments when I felt scared or overwhelmed. Michelle took the time to truly educate me throughout the entire process, explaining how to breathe through contractions, what IV drips I was receiving, and how they would affect my body. Her patience, clarity, and compassion made a world of difference in my experience. It was clear in every interaction that Michelle genuinely loves what she does, and her dedication made an intense day feel supported and empowering. I am so grateful for her care. 💛

Dr. Go was very thorough with his exam and tests ordered. He explained, in detail, why he was ordering said tests and efficiently provided me with the results. Dr. Go was friendly and genuine when conversing with me about my symptoms and needs. St.Rose Di Lima ER is 5 minutes away from my home and I have always received great care from this location. The Security Guard that greets me, the Administrator that takes down my information, the nurse that performs my vitals and the nurses, doctors and technicians that care for me, have been thorough, forthcoming and gracious.
-
While in for 10 days & feeling depressed, Manny noticed this and gave me a wonderfully uplifting pep talk. He had me laughing & smiling while he went about his work. He'd check in as able to see how I was doing and even have gave me a couple more pep talks that really helped lift my spirit! So compassionate and uplifting!
-
Helen, RN, who serves in the pre-surgical area, has taken care of my husband on two occasions. She is easy to remember because she is very patient, caring, and kind. An outstanding member of the St. Rose team and we appreciate Helen very much!
-
My night shift nurse, Eliza Zanoria, and my day nurse, Stephen Lopez, were both amazing, attentive and outstanding. Incredibly trustworthy and skilled. As a front-facing member of the St. Rose Dominican Health Foundation senior leadership team, it's empowering to know that at our hospitals and through our community programs, we embody our stated values. Our nursing teams provide great care and provide humankindness unparalled. High praise!
-
Regina works over night at ICU. She constantly checked on my room as well as next room. Her excellent cares with kindness made my after surgery difficult time much easier. At my age 70, I have been to Hospital many times and experienced with many good medical staffs in the past.
Regina is the best ever and this hospital is very lucky to have Regina as a team member. -
I had a serious fall that resulted in a fractures in my vertebrate, face and head. I was transferred to the St. Rose Dominican Hospital - Siena Campus where the young male nurse who was taking care of me, was outstanding in all aspects of my care. His kindness, compassion, empathy made a difficult time bearable. Thank you for everything.

At San Martin’s where the monitors sing,
And dignity threads through everything,
In walks Sherrlena Coleman, calm and bright,
Answering every alarm in the middle of night.
With a funny word and a kindness to spare,
She softens the worry hanging in air,
A true good Samaritan, steady and true—
The heart of the night shift, and the whole fine crew.
Thanks for your help Sherrlena! -
Janice, MD along with all the nurses and staff gave ample care of the time I was at the hospital. I appreciate them all although I don't recall everyone's names. I felt the dignity in protecting my privacy within the emergency department from the moment I arrived, until I left just a few short hours later. Thank you for your prompt kind care.
-
I am so very thankful to all the nurses on floor 3, but especially Delaney! She made my experience of being in labor with my first child the best in every way. She listened to me, understanding how I was feeling, and ensured I felt as comfortable as possible during the most important and vulnerable time of my life. She also treated my family with such kindness that they, too, loved her! Delaney went out of her way to make sure I was taken care of, and I knew I was in good hands. I would go back to St. Rose because of her and her team of amazing nurses!
-
During my recent hospitalization, I had the privilege of being under the care of Dr. Ndukwu, who had also assisted me during a prior visit. From the very beginning, he greeted me with a warm smile and a compassionate attitude. It was clear he was well-prepared and understood the situation I was facing. He explained everything in clear, understandable terms and walked me through the next steps. He made sure I understood and took the time to ask if I had any questions. I did have a few, and he answered each one thoroughly and knowledgeably, which gave me great peace of mind.
-
Dr. Skinner is not only an amazing physician but a great human! You can tell that he truly cares for others in the way he treats his patients but also his fellow doctors and nurses around him. I am so blessed to have his assistance in delivering 2 of my babies! Thank you Dr. Skinner for being you and for helping me and so many other women become new moms!
-
Jenn was my first night nurse after my surgery, and what stood out was her calm demeanor no matter what. My other nurses were wonderful too, but I couldn’t help noticing that particular difference. She never appeared rushed, and because of that, I was calm. I always felt their need to move quickly, but never with Jenn. I so appreciated her calmness. It made me feel safe.
-
First of all, I need to say that all of my nurses and doctors were wonderful. I was extremely pleased with my care after my surgery. Rudy was exceptional. I was experiencing severe discomfort that night and was afraid things might take a turn. Rudy came in and assured me that he would check on me every hour. He also told me to buzz him in between if I needed him. He told me not to worry, and that I would be okay. He kept his word, and gradually the pain subsided. I can never thank him enough for all he did for me. He brought me back to being comfortable, and just knowing he was there for me made all the difference in the world. He was my guardian angel.
-
I am hearing impaired, and the entire team took their time to explain anything I needed. Everyone was very friendly and kind. I am so grateful for the excellent care I received from Dr. Fontes. He explained everything I asked about and made sure I felt comfortable and informed. Brynn was wonderful and communicated with me through text, which helped me tremendously. I truly appreciated the thoughtfulness and respect shown throughout my experience. I would highly recommend Dr. Fontes to anyone.
-
From the second I walked into the labor and delivery department at this facility, Renette made my experience absolutely incredible. I have dealt with many doctors, surgeons, nurses, and anesthesiologists in my lifetime. I’m talking hundreds. Renette was the BEST nurse I’ve ever met. I do not mean that lightly. She was quick on her feet. Absolutely kind. Funny. Beautiful. Her presence and energy took away every single bit of anxiety I had because I knew that she cared about me and my baby.
-
My husband had a cardiac procedure was placed in ICU afterwards. From the minute, I got in the room to see him, his nurse Kelly Montgomery was spot on. Kelly was very attentive to everything that he needed. Kelly explained in detail all of the different things that we’re going on as he had never had this procedure before. Kelly talked to us like real people not like patients and that made his stay actually pleasurable. We have had good nurses before, but there is not one that compares to Kelly. We are very grateful for the service she provided while we were at the Siena campus.
-
Dr. Smith was fantastic!
-
Angel received me after having a lumbar fusion. She was very giving and caring to my needs post operative. She was there for, not only me, but my husband. She made sure he was as a comfortable as could be. She didn’t treat me as “just” another patient. This was my fourth lumbar fusion, and was nice to be recognized by other staff. Angel definitely is an outstanding care giver. Don’t get me wrong, all of my caregivers were excellent!!
-
My husband, was in same day surgery for an angiogram with Dr. Cordero. Alyssa's kind, friendly, caring, tender manner was immediately noticed and appreciated beyond measure. Also kudos to the early morning staff who pre registered us the previous morning.
-
Dr. Narala and his team did a great job on my legs. I am truly pleased with the result. They stayed as long as they had to stay to make sure the job was done right. I felt they really cared about me and gave me the care that I was hoping for the results are fantastic. I would recommend them to anyone as well as a team of nurses that took care of me after the procedure. They were diligent and unbelievably quick in response. I’m 70. I’ve been in many hospitals and St Rose was perhaps the best hospital I’ve ever been in both the doctors and nurses knew their business and did their jobs very well. I had a nurse whose name was Kathy. I don’t know her last name, but she was on the ball and very helpful. Thank all of you.
-
Neelam was very caring and soft-spoken and attended to all my needs. When I was in step-down care already, I had a severe panic attack -they did not know what to do with me; Neelam was not on duty at that floor but at that exact moment - she came - she said she felt I needed her and she was able to calm me down. I told her she’s my Guardian Angel sent by God to me in my hour of need.🙏🙏🙏

My husband Jim had triple bypass surgery on 1/23. I was able to see him immediately after the surgery in his intensive care unit. Sam was the intensive care nurse assigned to care for him. Sam was with us for the first three days of his care. Sam was incredibly efficient, reassuring and caring to my husband and was very patient with all of my questions and concerns. He made a very scary experience much easier. Sam was always professional but made us feel like family. He took the time to tell us what to expect and advised us on the best way to get through it. I don't know what we would have done without his kindness to get us through the three scariest days of our lives!!
-
Nurse Bonnie was the first person I met in the room where I was dressed and cared for prior to going into surgery. Her reassurance of what was coming made me calm down and relieved my stress immensely. Her kind, caring manner made all the difference.
-
I received the best care available. All the nurses were wonderful, but I mention one in particular his name is Alejandro and he took such good care of me. Thank you Alejandro and all the staff - you made a bad time very good.
-
Dr. Bregman certainly knew what to do with my feet. He corrected major problems with both feet. I am without pain now after 25 years! The nursing staff was phenomenal! They are so kind and attentive!
-
Dr. Hoer is a magnificent surgeon. His staff is as great as him. The care I had in the hospital was great, nurses were very attentive in giving me the care before and after surgery.
-
Ihra took such good care of my husband while he was in the Intermediate Care Unit. She not only took care of his medical needs but she became a liaison between his doctors, his case worker, and over saw every single detail that needed attention. She went above and beyond the usual charge nurse duties for he and I. Watching her care for Michael warmed my heart. I was touched by her assistance, her understanding, her upbeat attitude, her diligence, her dedication, and her kindness.
-
Liz was my night nurse. She was very professional, friendly and made sure I was always comfortable. An asset to San Martin.
-
I came to the ER thinking I had had a stroke. They got me right in and started taking vitals and getting the pic line for meds and getting my information. They sent me to get a CT scan and ordered up an MRI. They did some physical tests and later determined that I did not have a stroke but a different medical episode. Everything was explained to me as we went along. I felt valued and that they were really concerned about me. As far as ER visits go, this was a very positive one. I was astounded at how busy they were and was told that it is like that all the time. I didn't get her name, but the ER Charge nurse is a rock star. She managed the chaos expertly, ensuring that everyone got what they needed.
-
Dr. Eisert is an exceptional doctor. He makes me feel so comfortable and he truly cares about his patients. Although he did not deliver my second baby due to him not being on call, he did come and check on my well being the following day I delivered my baby. He makes sure I am taken cared of, listens to my concerns, and truly is compassionate. Please don’t ever change Dr. Eisert! The world needs more doctors like you.
-
I can’t begin to express how truly blown away by the entire staff and experience I had at St. Rose Hospital!! Not one time was I not treated with passion and care from start to finish. I came to have an angiogram not thinking I would need more than a stent or two. When I was told I needed triple bypass surgery, I kind of freaked out. But because everyone made me feel important to them, I went into a bad situation with a hopeful & positive feeling. The surgery went smoothly and my recovery staff was awesome!! Thank you to everyone who took a very scary situation into a great experience!! You’re all my saints and I thank you from the bottom of my now healthier heart!!
-
Carolyn - Thank you for being my night nurse. You checked on me, changed my ice pack, and made sure I was comfortable. I appreciated that so much. Timo - You are an amazing nurse! Your care and personal attention for me when I was so sick was amazing! You were such an advocate for my wellbeing. I felt you truly cared for me and helped me get the medicine I needed to start healing. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Food Services Specialist - The fellow that brought me my meals was so kind and caring, he even changed a meal just for me. Way to go, keep up the good work!! :)
-
Jodi and Will helped me tremendously with their very professional and kind care. I had a lot going on and they both went out of their way to care for me in every respect. Their care speaks volumes about St. Rose. Thank you.
-
Charley - first floor, grave shift, was an outstanding nurse. Pamela - first floor, excellent, thoughtful and kind nurse, loved her. Jose - second floor, excellent and efficient, great at his job. Dr. Hoang and assistant Christina - outstanding Doctor. I was blessed to be cared for by everyone at St. Rose. Your mission is being reached - excellent service, outstanding patient care - every person well trained and performance to the highest standards.
-
Thank you God for our cherished Adrian sisters, who upon arriving via train in Las Vegas, and despite their fears and anxieties, stepped off the train and stayed and baked their “angel bread.” They sold loaves of bread to raise money for medical supplies and for a place to care for workers in need of medical help; just look at where we are today with our hospitals! I pray everyday for our beloved Adrian sisters and our numerous staff who work relentlessly to care for thousands of patients who enter our doors for medical help, every single day! This is not just a story, but a true miracle of life saving efforts from all of you!
-
Not one, but TWO, life saving visits to St. Rose Siena. The ER, Dr. Lipman and staff saved my double transplant brother who came in with pneumonia and sepsis. His kidney and pancreas were saved after two weeks in ICU, went home and back to Chicago where he had 21 years post transplant. Two years ago, I presented at the ER with AFib and a flutter. Immediate cath, MRI, and a cardiogram saved me from a stroke & heart attack. Dr. Wood and Dr. Atif and staff. Thank you for being here.
-
I was admitted to Dignity Health San Martin Campus. I had exceptional care in both the ER and the 2nd floor. I do not remember the names of the night staff in the ER except for Carl but everyone there was excellent. On the 2nd floor, all of the nurses were great and Drs. Igtiben, Dr. Trent Richardson, and Dr. Ashraf Mohammed showed caring concern and were highly appreciated. They were excellent.
-
Your positive attitude and rapt attention were consistent for 7 days.
-
I was admitted to the Emergency Dept. at your hospital. I just want to thank all the medical staff for your most comforting and professional help to me. I found all the personnel there to be very kind and sweet which made my time there very calming under the circumstances. Thank you to all of you and may God bless you in your profession.
-
When you are sick and in the hospital, it is nice when the staff makes you feel like family. The cardiology unit is such a place. They make you feel like home. Keep up the good work.
-
I would like to thank all those people who were involved with my care. Everyone was professional and kind to my husband and I. I only had an infection on the left from a surgery I received last month (at an out of town hospital). The attending care was simple but was exactly what I needed so it would not become anything very serious. Thanks again.
-
"The quick work of the L&D nursing team saved my family’s lives. I came within five minutes of being a single father."
-
Thank you for all the care you have given my family.
-
"A few weeks before my cardiac event, I had been exploring the Inca Trail at 12,000 feet in Peru. If I had had my myocardial infarction there, I would not be relating this experience. My cardiologist said I was the luckiest guy he had ever met, touched my hand, and announced that he was heading to the casino to see if any of my luck rubbed off on him."
